This is our findings of agriculture. We researched about how it relate to machinery & finite resources, and how it affect the world. ~C

How many food deserts are there around the world?

How many food deserts are there around the world?
About 2.3 million people in the USA live more than a mile away from fresh food choices (2.2 percent of all Americans) and don’t have/own a car. In some urban areas public transport is available for those people but in rural areas people have no other choices. There are 500,000 people in Chicago living in food deserts in which they are mostly african american. In New York city there are 750,000. In Los Angeles 97% of people live in food deserts. Eating unhealthy is the economically cheaper option but vegan choices and growing your own food are both good ways to start the change from unhealthy eating.
Why do machines have an impact on finite resources?
One of the finite resources like non-renewable energy which is taken from the sources earth has is used in machines to power and move vehicles. Energy that is renewable can be found in solar panels and windmills and tides it can be generated whenever needed. Wind energy from the renewable side can have a con of affecting the bird population. There are also many pros to renewable energy like how the sun and ocean tides are free to use. But Solar energy can only be used on bright sunny days. There is also Bio-Fuel which can be used as fuel instead of petrol which is a nonrenewable finite resource (A fossil fuel) which powers vehicles.
Which finite resource does agriculture effect?
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has confirmed that agriculture is having a monumental impact on earth’s finite resources. According to the study, 38% of the world’s total land area was used for agriculture in 2007 and agriculture is responsible for over 70% of global freshwater consumption. Agriculture also affects the finite resource water and fossil fuels when it comes to the machinery that is used.
What can agriculture do to effect finite resources?
Agriculture uses up space and fresh water for farming crops and animal feed. Animal farming can pollute the rivers from animals pushing the soil into the rivers. Agriculture uses machinery to get work done faster, these machinery like tractors uses fossil fuels to work. Different things like lights uses up energy.
How can machinery affect agriculture in the future and the world?
Machinery within agriculture can affect how many finite resources, such as water and fossil fuels we have left in the future and we need to be careful about using the finite resources we have. This will affect us because if we don’t have water we may die and anything we use that requires fossil fuels, we can’t use anymore. Machinery may advance in the future and affect how fast/well farming can be.
How might machinery in agriculture be used?
Machinery can impact how productive framers can be, it can help them do their work faster and do more work. There is technology where machines can control a land area. They are able to help make the land suitable for farming. This will help framer take control on the plants they are planting and make sure it is good for the plant.
What might be some other action people has done about agriculture?
Scientists from union of concerned have been taking action on agriculture and have action where people can do online and sent emails to people to help take action. They also have things people at home can do which will help with the issue of unsustainable farming. On their website, they allow people to donate to the cause.
Farmers can start sustainable farming, this will help reduce the amount of finite resources and space used in agriculture.
How is agriculture affecting animals?
Animals are the ones that are agriculture because of humans. Cattle are producing methane which is one of the causes of global warming. If humans reduce half the amount of meat farming around the world, there may be a gain or a loss to the animals (like cow) that have to be kept as milk longer instead of killed young. But animals could also be kept less if they have no purpose anymore because they don’t live on farms. Also, if humans reduce the frequency of reform forests to farm, animals will keep live in their own habitat.
How does machinery works within agriculture?
Machinery such as tractors and walking tractors are designed to move more easily on the ground and travel on the land that is like agriculture, and they are the multi-functioning workhorse of the modern day farm. Combines are used to cut the plants that are ready to harvest and rakes the crops. Ploughs and Drags are used to make the soil ready for farming and levels/cuts the land to make it even. Spray is used to spray water to the plants to water them, the spray makes it easier to water the plants.
